Originally made as a commission, for a client relocating from Cape Town, ‘Precious’ is all about the memory of place, for émigrés, immigrants, and generations of migrant communities. Here, South African motifs have the quality of a dream – bright savanna flowers, grassland mammals, migratory birds, and sparkling South African diamonds cluster together in Drake’s luxuriant headdress. It’s a vibrant portrait of Cape Town’s rich natural resources and breathtaking beauty – but it’s also a celebration of our deep emotional attachment to place, and our insatiable desire to travel, to discover, and to forge new connections.
